Duck Woods Country Club began in the mid-1960s, originally as the Outer Banks Recreation Association and Duck Woods Golf Course. Only through the diligent and enthusiastic efforts, of a small group of local businessmen, did the dream become a reality.
The 250+ acre tract of land, a gift donated by Kitty Hawk Land Company in 1964, in conjunction with a Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loan, which was granted after the requirement of 300 rural members was met, gave life to the vision. In May 1967, construction contracts were awarded, to build the golf course, by famed architect Ellis Maples. By November 1968, Duck Woods Golf Course celebrated with a dedication ceremony and, on June 8, 1969, play began.
In 1986, the association with the FHA was severed, thereby allowing for the rewriting of the by-laws and a new name. By 1988, the board of directors presented revised by-laws that were then accepted by membership, along with the new name. Thus, the dream evolved to the present day Duck Woods Country Club.
In the fall of 2005, we opened our spectacular new clubhouse, featuring upscale dining and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
Duck Woods Country Club continues to provide the finest amenities and personalized service, in order to enhance the lives of our members and guests.
